The Queer Queens of Qomedy starring Jen Kober, Poppy Champlin and Sandra Valls are performing Wednesday, September 20th, at the LOL Comedy Club in North Park Plaza, at 7:30 PM.
The original Queer Queen of Qomedy, Poppy Champlin, is producing a three-city Texas tour that goes from San Antonio to Houston to Dallas.
From Showtime’s’ Fierce and Funny Females to knocking out Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jen Kober is doing it all as well as headlining this returning LGBTQ comedy show. Kober began her journey in Lake Charles LA. She bounded onto the national stage bringing crowds to their feet with her original blend of stand-up, story telling and improvised rock and roll comedy. Other credits include Stand-up Sit-down with George Lopez, Twisted Tuesdays with Kevin Hart, and she is currently on NPRs’ tour called Snap Judgment.
Poppy Champlin is the sparkling and energetic creator and host of The Queer Queens of Qomedy and has appeared on Showtime, LOGO, VH-1, Comedy Central, Oprah, and won the title of America’s Funniest Real Woman on The Joan Rivers Show. She is a regular performer in P-town and on Olivia and Atlantis cruises.
The third reigning queen is Laredo Native Sandra Valls. Sandra was voted by Latina Magazine and Curve Magazine one of the top 10 funniest and bad ass comics to watch out for. Valls is on two Showtime specials as well as having appearances on Comics Unleashed and BET’s Comic View.
Some of the proceeds from the show will be going to the local PRIDE Center and to the Hurricane Relief Efforts. Come and enjoy these veteran comics who Guarantee to Make Y’all Laugh!

San Antonio AIDS Foundation’s 26th annual Run & Walk for AIDS, 5-k run/2-mile walk is happening Saturday, September 23rd, at 7am, at the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex.
This year, the event route begins and ends at Wheatley Heights Sports Complex, running along the Salado Creek Greenway. All registrants will receive a participant packet containing the official event T-shirt, coupons and promo items. Participants will also have complimentary refreshments provided by several local vendors, information and activity booths, DJ music and more – all in a colorful, festival-like setting.

A group of GLBTI runners/walkers who get together on Sunday mornings at 9:00 (in the summer). They leave from the garage behind the Witte Museum in Brackenridge Park (Avenue B and Tuleta Drive).
The Wranglers are a GLBTQ & Friends Square Dancing Club.
They meet every Thursday, 7:30pm to 9:30pm, at The International Folk & Culture Center at Our Lady of the Lake University, 411 SW 24th St, Building 23 .

If you like to sing and harmonize with others, join the Live Oak Singers (LOS). They practice every Monday at 6:30pm – 9:30pm, at Woodlawn Pointe, 702 Donaldson Ave.
LOS include beginners to those who have degrees in music. They particularly need more female singers. LOS sing a wide variety of music from Broadway, pop, madrigal, country, gospel, barbershop and soft rock.
If you would like to join LOS this season, please let them know via email at (email@example.com) so they can make arrangements for an audition time. You are also welcome to sit in on a few rehearsals prior to auditioning to get to know us a bit prior to auditioning. New singers will work with the Artistic Director to determine your vocal range, ability to match notes and stay on pitch, and determine your singing part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). You DO NOT need to prepare a solo song for the audition. Auditions will be held from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm prior to rehearsals starting.
