2017 Christmas Light Fest at Don Strange Ranch   

Dazzling lights, holiday activities and flavors, shopping and the famous man in red are sure to fill everyone with holiday cheer November 23rd — December 31st during Christmas Light Fest, an annual holiday extravaganza nestled on picturesque ranchland just outside of San Antonio in Boerne, Texas.

Don Strange Ranch, 103 Waring Welfare Road, Boerne

Open nightly, the light spectacular features more than two million lights twinkling across light tunnels and holiday displays along a two-mile path and Santa’s Village, a rustic barn filled with holiday flavors, family fun, terrific shopping and of course, Santa. Event times are 6:00pm to 10:00pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Holidays. Weeknights are 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

General Admission vehicle passes are good for use on any date, regardless of date selected. Hayride tickets are good only on date/time selected at purchase. Season passes admit one vehicle for multiple visits/dates any time throughout the 2017 season.

28th Annual International Peace Market 

Join the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center in celebrating 28 years of community building and combating U.S. consumer culture! This year the market will be held on Friday, November 24th and Saturday, November 25th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. And Due to popular demand, the 3rd day remains – Sunday November 26th from Noon to 6 PM. The Market will be at Esperanza Peace & Justice Center at 922 San Pedro Ave.

As one of the oldest annual open-air international market offering authentic handmade goods the Mercado de Paz offers a community-centered alternative shopping destination during the busiest corporate shopping days of the year. Especially, in this current political climate, it is becoming more necessary for community to come together in peace and justice! Peace Market provides such a space.

Over 100 international and local artists/artisans will offer visitors a variety of artful, beautifully handmade items including rugs, pottery, textiles, hand-embroidered clothing, paintings, sculptures y más, filling the two-story building, the back patio and spilling out into the street.

Admission is free! The market will also offer live music from local performers and affordable and delicious food options for the weary shopper from tamales to vegan menudo.

The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center is located 1.5 miles north of the downtown library on San Pedro and Evergreen St. across from the VIA offices. Parking will be at the San Antonio College parking lot and there will be go-carts to drive you from the parking lot to the Mercado.

Ford Holiday River Parade  

The Ford Holiday River Parade is the way San Antonio kicks off the holiday season and it’s happening on Friday, November 24th, 6pm – 10pm, on the Riverwalk!

Held each year the day after Thanksgiving, people come from all over the U.S. to watch this spectacular one-hour night parade on the San Antonio River Walk. It kicks off with the lighting of the world-famous River Walk followed by a spectacularly illuminated night parade with costumed float riders and holiday music.

The theme for this year is Christmas at the Movies bringing classic holiday movies to life. The parade sold out last year with over 50,000 attending so make sure to buy tickets early.

Fundraiser for Domestic Violence Survivors  

BBQ Plate Fundraiser is being held this Saturday, November 25th, 11am – 6pm, at the B & N Sports Bar located at 3705 Roosevelt Ave.

The BBQ Plates consist of Chicken & Sausage with potato salad, rice and beans.

Donations are $8.

The proceeds will go to Domestic Violence Survivors.

    • The Mission-Area Market is held every 2nd and 4th Saturdays at Mission Marquee, 1300 Roosevelt. Next market days are November 25th and December 9th & 23rd..
    • The Downtown Market is held the first Saturday of the month at the Spanish Governor’s Palace, 105 Plaza de Armas in Downtown. Next market day is December 2nd from 10am – 2pm.

Restorative Justice: An Alternative to Disciplinary Policies 

Join the Martinez Street Women’s Center staff for their next community conversation, Restorative Justice: An Alternative to Disciplinary Policies in Our Schools on Tuesday, November 28th, 6:30pm – 9pm, at Martinez Street Women’s Center, 801 N. Olive Street.

We are fortunate to have Dr. Sofia Bahena, Assistant Professor of Education Leadership and Policy Studies, and Mr. Robert Rico, Lecturer in the Department of Criminal Justice from the University of Texas San Antonio. They will be leading a presentation on punitive practices, national trends, and ways that we can decrease disciplinary practices that push people out of San Antonio schools.

Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
Seating is limited, so please arrive early.

The MarketPlace

antiques Saddle up and get ready for The MarketPlace at Old Town Helotes Saturday, December 2nd! Music, food, and a good time are served up, and local craftsmen fill Old Town with treasures from across South Texas.

Happening the first Saturday every month, The MarketPlace is located in the heart of Old Town Helotes near the historic Floore Country Store and scenic Helotes Creek. Jewelry, arts and crafts, fresh produce, and one-of-a-kind pieces will be displayed. Additionally, local boutiques will open their doors and offer visitors a taste of Old Town Helotes! Gates open at 10am and close at 5pm. Gather the kids and come down to Old Town for a day of fun. MarketPlace proceeds benefit community activities within the City of Helotes.

The Human Rights Campaign 15th Annual San Antonio Gala represents one of the largest LBGTQ fundraising events in San Antonio. Last year, over 400 people came together as a community to show their support for HRC.

The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber Performances: February 23 – March 18, 2018, Woodlawn Theater

In honor of the Oscar, Grammy and Tony-winning legend’s 70th Birthday next year, The Woodlawn Theatre is teaming up with The Musical Company for a San Antonio premiere musical revue. This musical presentation will assemble a cast of incredible singers and dancers to bring you highlights from Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, CATS, Starlight Express, Sunset Boulevard, Phantom of the Opera, and many more.

Cast will include 6 featured leads (3 Female, 3 Male) and 8 Ensemble singers and dancers (4 Female, 4 Male)

Dance auditions will begin promptly at 7pm, singing auditions will follow. Actors should prepare 16-32 bars from an Andrew Lloyd Webber show. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. No tracked music or a cappella singing will be allowed. Individuals of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to audition for all roles. No need to sign up for an audition time, just show up a little before 7pm. Please bring a head shot and resume. Auditions are only for ages 16 and up.

LezDance 4A Cause  

LezRideSA is hosting a dance party fundraiser for LGBTQIA youth grants! All proceeds go to LGBTQIA+ youth.

Vision: The LezRideSA Coalition raises money for LGBTQIA Youth (12-24), to give them funding opportunities to participate in outdoor activities in a safe environment. At the same time, their activities include cycling and exercise, will promote, inspire and support LGBTQIA inclusion, diversity, wellness and community building through healthy adventures.

Mission: Their outreach activities, fundraisers, and education will connect and educate the LGBTQIA community and allies by offering team-building, healthy, safe outdoor opportunities through, camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling, travel and sports.

Holiday Artisan Show 

Artisans display and sell their beautiful handmade merchandise along the San Antonio River Walk. Artisans are different for each show but usually include pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, beadwork and more. The show is free to attend. River Walk extension (close to the Chamber of Commerce building and Shops at Rivercenter)

Adulting 101 

Calling all LGBTQ+ 17-24 year olds in and around the San Antonio area!  Are you interested in meeting up with some cool people you can relate to while learning some skills that will help your overall wellness?

Hughes Mendez Foundation (HMF) and UNIFY San Antonio are hosting monthly group sessions where #adulting is the focus of conversation. The meeting is held every third Wednesday at 6:30pm at 722 Isom Rd. The next meeting is Wednesday, December 20th, 6:30pm.

A range of topics from sexual health to mental health and everything in between will be covered. The best part is that you will guide where this group goes based on your suggestions about the skills you want to learn.

San Antonio Front Runners

A group of GLBTI runners/walkers who get together on Sunday mornings at 9:00 (in the summer). They leave from the garage behind the Witte Museum in Brackenridge Park (Avenue B and Tuleta Drive).

Alamo City Wranglers

The Wranglers are a GLBTQ & Friends Square Dancing Club.

They meet every Thursday, 7:30pm to 9:30pm, at The International Folk & Culture Center at Our Lady of the Lake University, 411 SW 24th St, Building 23 .

You can park in lot B.  **Except the week before IAGSDC convention, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas/New Year holiday weeks.

If you like to sing and harmonize with others, join the Live Oak Singers (LOS). They practice every Monday at 6:30pm – 9:30pm, at Woodlawn Pointe, 702 Donaldson Ave.

LOS include beginners to those who have degrees in music. They particularly need more female singers. LOS sing a wide variety of music from Broadway, pop, madrigal, country, gospel, barbershop and soft rock.

If you would like to join LOS this season, please let them know via email at ( so they can make arrangements for an audition time.  You are also welcome to sit in on a few rehearsals prior to auditioning to get to know us a bit prior to auditioning.  New singers will work with the Artistic Director to determine your vocal range, ability to match notes and stay on pitch, and determine your singing part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).   You DO NOT need to prepare a solo song for the audition.   Auditions will be held from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm prior to rehearsals starting.

Stonewall Democrats (SDSA) meet every third Monday each month, 6:30pm, at Picante Grill, 3810 Broadway. Everyone is invited. Next Meeting is December 18th.
San Antonio Gender Association (SAGA) meets every first and third Thursdays of the month. Meetings are held from 6pm to 8pm at the MCC Church located at 611 East Myrtle. SAGA offers a welcoming meeting place for transgendered persons and their friends and family who support them. The next meeting is December 7th.
PFLAG San Antonio Meetings are held the first Thursday every month at 7:00pm at the University Presbyterian Church, 300 Bushnell Ave. Next meeting is December 7th.
