Second Thursdays at The McNay  

Second Thursdays are back! From July 11th through October 10th, come to the McNay for a free live performance by local talent, exhibition tours, family-friendly activities, food trucks, and beer by Real Ale Brewing Company.

Explore the Museum galleries during H-E-B Free General Admission at the McNay from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Bring your own picnic blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening on the grounds of the Museum. Pets on leashes are always welcome.

The McNay Art Museum’s summer exhibition includes Transamerica/n: Gender, Identity, Appearance Today. Metropolitan Methodist Hospital will offer free and confidential HIV screenings to our community during Second Thursday events on July 11, August 8, and September 12. For more information, visit

Fiesta Noche del Rio   

Fiesta Noche del Rio is San Antonio’s annual iconic cultural performance that takes place at the Arneson River Theatre along the San Antonio River.

Spectators are treated to an artistry of colorfully costumed dancers and rich, lush sounds that bring to life the deep roots that make San Antonio a special place for love and life! It’s the perfect attraction to bring your guests to see! Particularly Enjoy Mariachis and Flamenco Dancing!

Hedwig and the Angry Inch: A Rock Musical  

Hedwig opened Off-Broadway in 1998 and won the Obie Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical.

The story follows Hedwig Robinson (Roy Thomas), a transgender East German singer of a fictional rock and roll band, who is the victim of a botched sex-change operation which has left him, now her, with just an angry inch. The fourth-wall smashing rock singer’s relentless search for love and her other half is performed in song and monologue in the form of a rock gig backed by her band The Angry Inch. Multi-Award Winning Actress and Director, Morgan Clyde, will play the role of Yitzhak, one of Hedwig’s love interests and singers in the band.

Performances will feature pre-show opening acts from local performance troupes including musicians, street performers, drag artists and burlesque performers. Vendors and local artists will sell their wares and creations in our lobby before and after the show.

The Saturday afternoon performance will be a charity show benefit for Fiesta Youth, Pride San Antonio and American Veterans for Equal Rights. The benefiting charities provide much needed social services benefiting LGBT persons and youth in our community.

A small reception will be held after each performance to meet, greet and network.

Balcones Heights Jazz Festival  

Plan to be at 26th Annual Balcones Heights Jazz Festival for live music by renowned female jazz performers, as well as food and drinks. For the first time in its 26-year history, the 2019 Balcones Heights Jazz Festival is featuring an all-female lineup!

General admission is free and takes place during four consecutive Fridays July 12th, 19th, 26th and August 2nd!

Q Connection – LGBTQ Meetup

Looking to get connected to other LGBTQ+ folks or thinking about coming out? Not sure what to do or where to turn for advice and support?

Q Connection is a safe, informal space to listen, discuss and learn, surrounded by community. This group is open to all LGBTQ+ folks, as well as to those who choose to not label themselves and those that support the community!

Mission Marquee Plaza Outdoor Movie Series

This Saturday, July 6th, the FREE showing of Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse at Mission Marquee Plaza! There will be on-site food trucks and entertainment.

The venue opens at 7 p.m. and the movie will start 15 minutes after sunset. The grounds are pet-friendly and on-site parking is available.

A Pride Collective: An Exhibit of LGBQT Artists and Allies  

Pride is celebrated all across San Antonio and TexPop returns to its annual Pride Pachanga! This year, the event will be hosted by the always fabulous Felicia Andrews with co-hosts Miami and Indica. Performance artist and DJ, Pink Leche rounds out the evening with special performances by Los MENitrosos!

In TexPop’s gallery, there will be over 20 LGBTQ artists and allies represented with pieces for sale. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will go to supporting Thrive Youth Center, whose mission is to provide a safe, effective, and supportive center for homeless LGBTQ youth.

The event is happening Friday, July 19th, 7pm – 10pm, at South Texas Museum of Popular Culture, 1017 E Mulberry Ave.

Farmers and Artisans Market

Guests will be able to purchase fresh goods from locally-sourced farmers and browse through a variety of over 25 local artisan vendors. The market is open every third Saturday from 10am – 2pm at Mission Marquee Plaza. The next market day is July 20th.

The Harvey E. Najim Family YMCA will offer a FREE Community Zumba Class onsite at 10 a.m. All fitness levels welcome.

The San Antonio Food Bank will be on-site hosting healthy cooking demos and nutrition education sessions. For the months of May – October, the SAFB will issue & redeem the WIC & Senior Vouchers from the Texas Department of Agriculture (October is redeem only). The markets are certified with the Texas Department of Agriculture, and GO TEXAN certified.

Trans Power SA Pride Summit  

Trans Power SA is happening Saturday, July 27th, 3pm – 7pm, at the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center.

Trans Power SA is an event focused on enhancing support for our beloved trans community through resource gathering and awareness building. Our trans community experiences pervasive adversity and discrimination in many areas of life, including work, school, and healthcare.

Lead by the trans community and in collaboration with established community-based agencies and institutions, this event will appropriately highlight the need for awareness and education in Bexar County as it relates to acceptance, support, and empowerment of our trans community.

Frida Fest 2019  

Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter, continues to be admired by so many people around the world. Born on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacán, Mexico, her life was a unique self-creation. To this day, many continue to be mesmerized and inspired by her paintings, her poetry, and her fashion.

To honor her spirit, Que Retro Arts and Curious Twins will host Frida Festival 2019. A two-day celebration. July 27th & 28th, from 12pm to 6pm, at Wonderland Mall of the Americas.

This is the Fourth Annual Frida Festival. It’s a free- family-friendly, indoor event.

The MarketPlace in Helotes

Saddle up and get ready for The MarketPlace at Old Town Helotes Saturday, August 3rd!

Music, food, and a good time are served up, and local craftsmen fill Old Town with treasures from across South Texas.

Happening the first Saturday every month, The MarketPlace is located in the heart of Old Town Helotes near the historic Floore Country Store and scenic Helotes Creek. Jewelry, arts and crafts, fresh produce, and one-of-a-kind pieces will be displayed. Additionally, local boutiques will open their doors and offer visitors a taste of Old Town Helotes! Gates open at 10am and close at 5pm. Gather the kids and come down to Old Town for a day of fun. MarketPlace proceeds benefit community activities within the City of Helotes.

70th Anniversary Classic Car Show  

Join in an evening of classic cars outside and classic burgers inside at Luther’s Café on Saturday, August 3rd, 5:30pm – 7:30pm.

ACRG Pre-Bout Party  

Join the Alamo City Rollergirls on Friday, August 9th, at Big Hops, 7pm10pm! Big Hops is located at 226 W Bitters Rd, close to Santikos Embassy Theater.

Free Zumba at The Center is every Tuesday from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. Open to all skill levels.

Fiesta Youth 

Youth  (Teen)  Meetings  are  held  every Tuesday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm  at Woodlawn Pointe located at 702 Donaldson Avenue.  Next Meeting is July 16th.

All youth aged 12-18 are welcomed to come join a Fiesta Youth Meeting. The youth meetings were created to provide a safe, non-judgmental, affirming place for all LGBTQ youth. Every Tuesday, the youth meet at UPC to meet new friends, participate in fun games and activities (field trips, too!), and join in on group discussions.

San Antonio Front Runners

A group of GLBTI runners/walkers get together on Sunday mornings at 9:00 (in the summer). They leave from the garage behind the Witte Museum in Brackenridge Park (Avenue B and Tuleta Drive).

Alamo City Wranglers

The Wranglers are a GLBTQ & Friends Square Dancing Club.

They meet every Thursday, 7:30pm to 9:30pm, at The International Folk & Culture Center at Our Lady of the Lake University, 411 SW 24th St, Building 23 .

You can park in lot B.  **Except the week before IAGSDC convention, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas/New Year holiday weeks.

Live Oak Singerslive oak singers1

If you like to sing and harmonize with others, join the Live Oak Singers (LOS). They practice every Monday at 6:30pm – 9:30pm, at Woodlawn Pointe, 702 Donaldson Ave.

LOS includes beginners to those who have degrees in music. They particularly need more female singers. LOS sing a wide variety of music from Broadway, pop, madrigal, country, gospel, barbershop and soft rock.

If you would like to join LOS this season, please let them know via email at ( so they can make arrangements for an audition time.  You are also welcome to sit in on a few rehearsals prior to auditioning to get to know us a bit prior to auditioning.  New singers will work with the Artistic Director to determine your vocal range, ability to match notes and stay on pitch, and determine your singing part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).   You DO NOT need to prepare a solo song for the audition.   Auditions will be held from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm prior to rehearsals starting.

Monthly Meetings

Stonewall Democrats (SDSA) meet every third Monday each month at Luther’s Café. Happy Hour starts at 6pm. Meeting starts at 6:30pm and finishes at 8pm. Bring your friends. Everyone is invited. Next Meeting is July 15th.

San Antonio Gender Association (SAGA) meets every first and third Thursdays of the month. Meetings are held from 6pm to 8pm at the MCC Church located at 611 East Myrtle. SAGA offers a welcoming and safe place for conversation, discussion, and support to transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, genderqueer, and intersex persons and to those who love and support them. Next Meeting is July 18h.

PFLAG San Antonio Meetings are held the first Thursday every month at 7:00pm at the University Presbyterian Church, 300 Bushnell Ave. Next meeting is July 11th a week later due to the holiday.
