Black History of San Antonio: Movie Premiere- Walk on the River 

On Friday August 17th, at the Carver Community Cultural Center, come for the first public showing of “Walk on the River- A Black History of the Alamo City.” The event is from 6pm – 10pm.

In this independent film are documented both the history and the contributions that African Americans have made to the fabric of San Antonio, Texas from emancipation to the Civil Rights movement. Chronicled are the path of freed Blacks establishing communities, churches and schools in the 1800’s to thriving Black owned businesses that flourished during the Jim Crow era.

Religion, politics, education, social organizations and community are all touched on in an attempt to paint a vivid picture of life for Black San Antonians in the past to help create a knowledge base, a sense of pride and a blueprint for the next generations moving forward.

Trans Kids Back to School

This event is Saturday, August 18th, 5pm, at the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center. It will focus on the treatment of trans children in schools, legal rights, and procedures for parents, teachers, and administrators.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Kimberly Ridgley, Director of Counseling for Northside Independent School District. Additional speakers will include school administrators, counselors and legal experts. Panelists will include parents of trans children.

Free admission. Translation available. All are welcome! Resource fair and special programming for our community. Stop by Fiesta Youth booth for information and giveaways.



The Black Swan Market Days and Festival

The next Black Swan Market Days & Festival are August 18th & 19th – 11am – 6pm….FREE, Family Friendly Fun, Food Trucks, Art Vendors, Psychics, Music, Face Painting and so much more!

The Black Swan Market Days are held on the first and third weekend’s February through December. The MarketPlace in Helotes

Saddle up and get ready for The MarketPlace at Old Town Helotes Saturday, September 1st! Music, food, and a good time are served up, and local craftsmen fill Old Town with treasures from across South Texas.

Happening the first Saturday every month, The MarketPlace is located in the heart of Old Town Helotes near the historic Floore Country Store and scenic Helotes Creek. Jewelry, arts and crafts, fresh produce, and one-of-a-kind pieces will be displayed. Additionally, local boutiques will open their doors and offer visitors a taste of Old Town Helotes! Gates open at 10am and close at 5pm. Gather the kids and come down to Old Town for a day of fun. MarketPlace proceeds benefit community activities within the City of Helotes.



Labor Day Artisan Show

Over 40 artisans display and sell their beautiful handmade merchandise along the San Antonio Riverwalk. Artisans are different for each show, but usually include pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, bead-work and more.

San Antonio Q3 Show  

The Queer Queens of Qomedy starring Sandra Valls, Poppy Champlin and Crist Guzman are coming to LOL Comedy Club Wednesday, September 5th, at 7:30pm.

The original Queer Queen of Qomedy, Poppy Champlin is producing this four-city tour that goes from San Antonio to Austin to Houston and finishing up in Dallas. Champlin says Texas is hot and so are the audiences there. Champlin is the sparkling and energetic creator and host of The Queer Queens of Qomedy and has appeared on Showtime, LOGO, VH-1, Comedy Central, Oprah, and won the title of America’s Funniest Real Woman on The Joan Rivers Show.

The reigning and most popular Queen is from Laredo, Texas, Sandra Valls. Sandra was voted by Latina Magazine and Curve Magazine as one of the top 10 funniest and bad ass comics to watch out for. Valls is on two Showtime specials as well as having appearances on Comics Unleashed and BET’s Comic View. A real crowd pleaser Sandra is Loved.

Local comic Crist Guzman was born & raised in Dallas. She attended American Broadcasting School. Shortly after working behind the scenes at Power 108 in Waco, she developed and operated her own radio show, “This & That”. A fresh face to the Dallas scene, she performs at Hyenas, Hat Tricks & Dallas Comedy House. Her brand of comedy includes hilarious tales of LGBT marriage & family that “almost” everyone can relate to.

Some proceeds from the show will be going to the SA Pride Center. Come and enjoy these veteran comics who are guaranteed to please Y’all and Lez keep laughing.

Tickets are $25 for General admission and $40 for VIP, which includes preferred seating, and a meet and greet with the comedians before the show.

The San Antonio Botanical Garden is excited about its 13th semiannual Brews and Blooms happening Saturday, September 22nd, from 7pm – 10pm!

Brews and Blooms is a fun and casual evening for adults 21 and older (valid ID required).

Craft brew sampling, food trucks, live music, DJ Music by Two Ten Entertainment, and adult activities, all set in the gorgeous, flowering Botanical Garden. Brews and Blooms isn’t your typical beer garden!

Working closely with San Antonio Cerveceros, Brews and Blooms provides a venue for new and seasoned craft breweries to showcase just why craft brews have become so popular around the country. Fiesta Youth 5th Anniversary 

Join Fiesta Youth as they celebrate 5 years in the San Antonio community on Sunday, September 23rd, 4pm – 6pm, at Candlelight Coffeehouse, Wine Bar & Café.

Serving hundreds of kids and over $10,000 in college scholarships, Fiesta Youth is so happy to be celebrating this huge accomplishment. The entire community is invited to celebrate with Fiesta Youth and learn about some exciting things that are planned for the future.

Fiesta Youth 

Youth  (Teen)  Meetings  are  held  every Tuesday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm  at the University Presbyterian Church, located at 300 Bushnell.

All youth aged 12-18 are welcomed to come join a Fiesta Youth Meeting. The youth meetings were created to provide a safe, non-judgmental, affirming place for all LGBTQ youth. Every Tuesday, the youth meet at UPC to meet new friends, participate in fun games and activities (field trips, too!), and join in on group discussions.

San Antonio Front Runners

A group of GLBTI runners/walkers who get together on Sunday mornings at 9:00 (in the summer). They leave from the garage behind the Witte Museum in Brackenridge Park (Avenue B and Tuleta Drive).


Alamo City Wranglers

The Wranglers are a GLBTQ & Friends Square Dancing Club.

They meet every Thursday, 7:30pm to 9:30pm, at The International Folk & Culture Center at Our Lady of the Lake University, 411 SW 24th St, Building 23 .

You can park in lot B.  **Except the week before IAGSDC convention, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas/New Year holiday weeks.

If you like to sing and harmonize with others, join the Live Oak Singers (LOS). They practice every Monday at 6:30pm – 9:30pm, at Woodlawn Pointe, 702 Donaldson Ave.

LOS include beginners to those who have degrees in music. They particularly need more female singers. LOS sing a wide variety of music from Broadway, pop, madrigal, country, gospel, barbershop and soft rock.

If you would like to join LOS this season, please let them know via email at (artisticdirector@liveoaksingers.org) so they can make arrangements for an audition time.  You are also welcome to sit in on a few rehearsals prior to auditioning to get to know us a bit prior to auditioning.  New singers will work with the Artistic Director to determine your vocal range, ability to match notes and stay on pitch, and determine your singing part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).   You DO NOT need to prepare a solo song for the audition.   Auditions will be held from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm prior to rehearsals starting.

Stonewall Democrats (SDSA) meet every third Monday each month at Luther’s Café. Happy Hour starts at 6pm. Meeting starts at 6:30pm and finishes at 8pm. Bring your friends. Everyone is invited. Next Meeting is August 20th.
San Antonio Gender Association (SAGA) meets every first and third Thursdays of the month. Meetings are held from 6pm to 8pm at the MCC Church located at 611 East Myrtle. SAGA offers a welcoming meeting place for transgendered persons and their friends and family who support them. The next meeting is August 16th.
PFLAG San Antonio Meetings are held the first Thursday every month at 7:00pm at the University Presbyterian Church, 300 Bushnell Ave. Next meeting is September 6th.
