San Antonio

LOL – Ladies On the Loose – the monthly social for Lesbians and their friends and allies, is happening on Thursday, February 16th, at the spacious and fabulous Aldaco’s at Sunset Station! DJ Traci will be playing wonderful eclectic dance music all night. Come enjoy drink specials and fun times with your buddies! Remember to bring your travel-size toiletries and baby diapers and wipees to donate to CAARN.

On Friday, The Alliance at Our Lady of the Lake University is presenting Movie Night: For The Bible Tells Me So. The show starts at 6pm in the Library Community Room which is on the first floor of the Sueltenfuss Library on campus, 411 S.W. 24th St.   FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity. Many of you have been wanting to see this critically acclaimed movie…Now you can!

Austin

The popular, monthly women’s dance is happening Saturday night. Lezzdance is from 6pm to 10pm at Rusty’s, 405 East 7th Street.  DJ mix, snacks, grrreat bartenders! $5 at the door.  Portion of the proceeds is donated to a local charity every month.  Come join the GIRLS at Rusty’s!

The 15th Anniversary of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner is happening on Saturday, February 4th, and it is shaping up to be the most exciting one yet!

Super Bowl Parties 

In San Antonio - The Alamo Empire presents its Annual Chili Cookoff during the Game! Winners announced at the end of the Game. In addition, the TGRA Raffle and the Madonna Halftime Show will be happening. The set-up time for the cook-off begins at 3pm and the tasting is at 5pm. Kickoff is 5:30pm at Sparky’s Pub on N. Main.

In Austin – Tailgate Party & BBQ begin at 4pm at Rusty’s on E. 7th.  What a great way to watch the commercials, Madonna, and the game with your friends and good BBQ.

It’s a fun-filled week in the Austin & San Antonio areas.  Check out my one minute update:

In Austin

Playing at Rusty’s on Friday night is Susan Gibson, a CMA Award Winning Songwriter. Her concert starts at 7pm. $5 at the door. This is sure to be a great performance by such a high caliber, talented performer! Rusty’s is located at 405 E. 7th St, Austin.

Also, on Friday, is The Merry Merry Martini Mixer. This  is Equality Texas’ beginning-of-the-year bash and an opportunity for you to make your first 2012 contribution to a worthy cause – Equality Texas. The event  is  January 27th, 7pm – 11pm, at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.

Then remember to join the HRC Austin group for their fun monthly social Tuesdays Together on January 31st at The Melting Pot at 301 E. 3rd St.

An Important Reminder… The HRC Austin One Love Gala  is Saturday, February 11th. Be sure to purchase your tickets for this extraordinary event!

On Friday, the SALGBT Chamber of Commerce begins the weekend with their monthly 4th Friday Mix n Mingle Networking Happy Hour at aloft at the Airport. Everyone is invited to join them.

The San Antonio Diablos are having their Drag Bingo on Saturday night at Silver Dollar on N. Main beginning at 8:30pm. Come ready to play!

Then on Sunday, the Royal Sovereign & Imperial Court of the Alamo Empire is having the 2012 Royal Winter Masquerade Ball “Carnival” A Midnight Celebration in Rio. 5:00pm till 11:00pm at Club Empire,  6890 NW Loop 410.

This Week there are two fun events happening.

What Are You Waiting For… Get On With It!

This week there are a couple of big events happening that highlight, celebrate and support our LGBT community. It’s time for all of us to show-up and participate.

The 25th Annual MLK March 

In San Antonio, the LGBT community is encouraged to participate in the Annual Martin Luther King March on Monday, January 16th. Everyone is to show-up at 9am  at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 3503 Martin Luther King Drive, near the starting point of the March.

Participants are asked to make signs and wear clothing reflecting LGBT messages and symbols. Be creative… Display messages that state the fact that LGBT Americans are still discriminated against and still striving for equal protection under the laws of this state.  Be as creative as you wish.  The largest rainbow flag in San Antonio has been secured. This is the same flag that has been used in many local and national demonstrations.

All LGBT groups, organizations, associations, churches, and clubs are going to march together in unity. It is important for us to SHOW-UP—There is Strength in Numbers. Invite Your Friends!

Her HRC Austin  

In Austin,  join HRC Austin for a fun night of live music featuring the band ‘Grrlz Will Be Boiz’, comedian Holly Lorka, performances from Austin’s own ‘Jigglewatts Burlesque Troop’, and dancing with one of Austin’s favorite female DJs after the show. Her HRC is happening on Sunday, January 15th,  at Rusty’s,  405 East 7th Street.

Tickets start at $15 for general admission and $20 for VIP tickets (reserve seating and table service).  Tickets to Her HRC event include annual HRC membership and support the work of HRC and HRC Foundation.

Her HRC is an open celebration of our community. All are welcome to this event regardless of gender identity or expression.  This event is for 21+.
